ALAN DE VAL ESCADA 2008. Black Grenache (Old Vines) - "Garnacha Tintorera" (Cepas Viejas)
A new recognition for Alan de Val winery for being the first to recover, as quality wine, the Grenache from old vines that are still on the slopes overlooking the river Sil.
Alan de Val has opened the gap and right now are currently several other wineries folowing the same path.
"Valdeorras has hidden treasures that are slowly being discovered, centuries-old plots of land with soils and orientations that produce very unique wines, where a Mediterranean variety behaves like Atlantic and where a foreign variety has been nationalized "valdeorresa" said the President of Alan de Val,Joaquin Sanchez , pioneer of the rescue of this grape variety alongside with his brothers.
THE WINE: ESCADA 2008
It comes from very old vines of Garnacha Tintorera, with very poor soils and with orientation to south facing. They are the last to be harvested (late harvest) so that the concentration of its components is high.
TASTING NOTES: Red cherry with a garnet rim, well covered. Intense nose of ripe black fruit aroma, very soothing and memories of pepper. The palate is broad and powerful, fruity, very well balanced, noble tannins and a very long finish. Evolve well in bottle for the next four or five years.
MARRIAGE: Red meat (steak, entrecot, sirloin.) Roasts (roasted lamb or goat). Cheeses. Galician traditional products (botelo, zorza, Galician stew ....).
